The Real Ones
The Real Ones
Bush Theatre until 26 October
The Real Ones at The Bush Theatre is a powerful exploration of platonic love, friendship, and the challenges of identity. Written by Waleed Akhtar, the play follows best friends Zaid and Neelam over 18 years, from their carefree university days to the complexities of adulthood. Both characters come from British-Pakistani Muslim families and share dreams of becoming playwrights, but their lives diverge as Zaid, who is gay, struggles to find his place in the theatre world while Neelam opts for a more conventional path, including marriage and family life.

Forced Entertainment:
Signal to Noise
Thu 10 Oct & Fri 11 Oct 2024
Southbank Centre
Signal to Noise is an upbeat spectacle that gradually unravels. It features fragmented AI-generated speech—ranging from random monologues to weather reports—all lip-synced by six performers.
The show blends human-like voices with off-topic conversations, questioning what’s real and what’s artificial. Alongside this, Etchells’ eclectic score combines various sounds, from xylophones to guitars, creating a strange yet captivating atmosphere. Celebrating Forced Entertainment’s 40th anniversary, the performance invites the audience to reflect on the oddities of human interaction.
