Hatched Ensemble at the Barbican Theatre

Hatched Ensemble

Barbican Theatre 9-12 October

Hatched Ensemble, by South African choreographer Mamela Nyamza, is an evocative dance work performed at the Barbican. Featuring ten dancers, an opera singer, and an African traditional instrumentalist, the piece fuses Western classical music with African vocals, while challenging gender norms and societal expectations. Nyamza draws from her personal experiences as a mother and lesbian artist, using bold choreography and striking costumes to explore themes of identity, transformation, and self-liberation
